Researching a realistic novel begins with scouting real locations. Teresa and I like to do our groundwork from the comfort of our 42' Country Coach, a stupid-big tour bus.
Tucson, Arizona, a stopping point on our way east to visit a daughter in Austin, Texas, soon became a favorite destination city. My decision to set my next novel in Tucson triggered a number of trips there to do research for the book.
